Could : you explain, please? Yes, if you are using I-STAR with 5.x engines or have TCP client/server communications enabled on 6.x or greater through the sqlhosts file, then the operating system is listen on a particular UNIX port for connections to Online. -----entry in /etc/services----- online 1234/tcp -------------------------------- ---netstat -a | grep "online"--- tcp 0 0 myhost.online yourhost.4462 ESTABLISHED tcp 0 0 myhost.online *.* LISTEN -------------------------------- In the above example, Online is listening on TCP port 1234 for requests. SATAN tries all of the TCP ports to see if it can find services it knows about. I assume it is sending some data to the port that Online doesn't know what to do with so Online panics and dies (Nice error checking Informix!). -- +-----------------------------+--------------------------------------------+ | BRIAN K.
