Hello,
Few Questions in the locale setting
=================================
1. Is it possible to have different locale (dbs_collate) value for the
databases created (dbs_dbsname) ?
OR
2. Are the database created should have the same locale value as teh sysmaster
?
3. I am executing the below command to get the locale value and setting the
DB_LOCALE, CLIENT_LOCALE, SERVER_LOCALE. Is it the right command ?
select dbs_collate from sysdbslocale where dbs_dbsname="sysmaster"
On executing the above, I do get only en_US.819 value. But the user created
database can have the different locale set.
4. Is there any locale setting for the the dbspaces .. ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You can have a different locale for each database in your system, and
there is not dependency on the locale of sysmaster.
You should create the databases with the intended DB_LOCALE value set in
the environment.
In case you set a CLIENT_LOCALE value in your client settings
(ODBC/.NET/JDBC/ESQLC etc), Informix will automatically convert the
values entered into the database locale.
In case no CLIENT_LOCALE is set, the charset will be as when the
database was created.
If you want to override the DB_LOCALE which was used when creating the
database, you can set DB_LOCALE in the client environment and Informix
will ignore the value from sysdatabases and set your value instead.
I have heard this is not accepted in new versions, DB_LOCALE should
always match the locale of the database.
You cannot give a locale for a DBSpace, causes locales are for databases
and many databases with different locale could reside in a single
dbspace.
en_US.819 is an internal locale, which matches some of the en_US locales
(and might be default if no DB_LOCALE is set when the database was
created). The point is that there are synonyms for one locale which
internally are converted to a single value.
