And I4GL 7.32.UC1 is a 32-bit version of I4GL, but I4GL 7.32.FC1 is a 64-bit version - I'm making an assumption that there actually is a .FC1 version of I4GL, but on some platforms, there certainly should be a 64-bit I4GL. > So, that means, if you are using still old 4gl, you cannot connect > using shared mem to dbase. you need tcp/ip This observation is, in general, correct; 32-bit clients cannot usually connect to 64-bit servers via shared memory. Unfortunately, the original question doesn't include the complete version numbers, so we can't tell whether there are 32-bit vs 64-bit issues to be worried about. [So, when you ask a question in c.d.i, please include the complete version numbersand - it all helps, at least sometimes.] HP-UX has .HCx versions, where I think the client is 32-bit and the server 64-bit and the two can communicate via shared memory - but if someone gainsays me, they could be right. (The .HCx versions may be close to obsolete now - like HP-UX 10.20 is close to obsolete - and were or are something to do with 32-bit code running on 64-bit platforms, but I may have the detailed interpretation incorrect.) -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v2003.04 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
