Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A poster asked, in the Informix newsgroup, whether Oracle has a good reputation and would suit a claims-processing application. No real technical evaluation emerged: replies were mostly partisan or joking (a link to a DB2 Magazine article, claims that Informix is superior, and a counter-argument citing dice.com job counts as evidence of Informix's decline). The final useful advice was simply to ask in a comp.databases.oracle.* group instead. No resolution or substantive product comparison is recorded.

Hello,
Could you please give me some information about Oracale Database Systems
reputation. Would you think that it would be a good system to use for
processing claims?

If you mean Oracle, there is an article that addresses this question in
the latest DB2 Magazine:

Hi
Maybe you like to say Oracle.
Informix is a much better database. For everithing including processing
claims :-)

Hello Beatrice. Oracle is not very good, is vastly inferior to Informix,
needs many, many more administrators just to keep its creaking frame
airbone, is hugley expensive, is sold by charlatans, and lacks DB2's unique
attribute of a single code base for all operating systems.
There. I donlt think you'll hear much argument against these facts.

And with any luck at all there will be a job, in 5 years, for those who
hang on until the bitter end.
From www.dice.com on 3/12/2006
COBOL 1,289 jobs
Informix 392 jobs
PICK 201 jobs
FOX 121 jobs
Informix is indeed an excellent product. That won't be enough to save it
from IBM's benign neglect.

I'd be willing to bet that of those "Informix" jobs very few were actually
Informix specific, most likely requiring skills in other technologies or
disciplines. Most were probably looking to migrate away from Informix
too, since there is hardly ever any traffic about new Informix customers.
You hear about maybe one new Informix customer a year, but not much else.

Assuming you mean "Oracle", you might be better off posting to
comp.databases.oracle.server or some other newsgroup in the
comp.databases.oracle.* domain. There you would get an Oracle-based
answer; in case you hadn't noticed, this newsgroup deals mainly with
the Informix RDBMS and its tools. Unless you were trolling for Daniel
Morgan or Mark Townsend, who are Oracle-based and hang out here when
it suits them . . . .
