Informix Archive Problem

Gentleman and Ladies, We have attached a HP DAT Model 35480a to a SUN Sparc 10/40, which is a database server running Informix 4.10.UG1 and I-Star 4.10.UG1. The tape unit is configured for compression with no host control. We have been unable to run an archive off to this tape unit. The following error message is returned Performing archive of the entire INFORMIX-OnLine system. Please mount tape and press Return to continue ... Please enter the level of archive to be performed (0, 1, or 2) 1 Error writing to tape device, Error No. = 5. Program canceled. finderr 5 tells me : -5 I/O error An operating system error code with the meaning shown was unexpectedly returned to the database engine. Look for operating system error messages that may give more information. In particular, try to determine what device produced the error, and whether it held the database or some other kind of file. We have tested the DAT using the "standard" UNIX tape utilities and have had no problems. All is well using dump, tar, cpio, and dd. Informix calls dd from the tbtape utility, we have used dd from the command line with successful results. Hence, we assume all is well with the tape drive and its configuration. Does anyone else have a similar configuration ? working correctly. Any info would be appreciated.
