Re: ? How to access C-ISAM File with SQL

Frederic, Firstly you need to ensure that the version of C-ISAM is compatible with the SE. This may not be a trivial problem. Some vendors apparently bought C-ISAM source and then modified it subsequently. e.g. Microfocus Cobol, in pre SQL days, was compatible with Informix 3.3 (at least on Zilog platform) but a few years later the SCO version had locking problems when we tried to use it against Informix C-ISAM. Assuming you have succeeded with the first step you need to know the layout of the file and what keys have been declared (I have heard of vendors supplying the SQL DDL to correspond to their C-ISAM files). Set up an Informix table and indexes which correspond to this. Delete the .dat and .idx files for the table and replace them with copies of or links to the real files. Test it *thoroughly*. Assuming that you are only reading the data in Informix (say to do reports) this should be safe. If, on the other hand, you intend to update the application data from Informix you might wish to leave for another job shortly before release date....
