This sounds like a known bug which Jonathan Leffler sent me the number for a couple of weeks back which I posted on, fixed in (he said!) 4.14/6.02 whereby the front-end goes rogue instead of dying if the terminal is turned of - a problem we have found when using PCs over networks!
