Re: Important Newsgroup Virus Information
Posted in 2003
The current spate of virus messages is causing a lot of grief. I keep getting messages that an email of mine to some third party contained a virus. And the third-party names are almost invariably indecipherable. I would like to suggest that the internet practice of hiding behind "nicknames" is a major contributor to this scenario. If I could be sure that a message is not in response to an email that I have sent then soemthing could be done about it but with so many dubious names lurking in iiug.org membership and on informix-list none of us can be sure who we are communicating with. So, when you use an invalid or strange email name to register with iiug.org or informix-list bear in mind that you are merely helping the hackers.
