In article <2p3im6$g8r@eldborg.rhi.hi.is>, karlth@rhi.hi.is (Karl Thoroddsen) says: > >A client of mine lost his .dat file and all that remains are some data >splinters in the index file (.idx). Is there a known method or utility >which could partially recover his data? > I'm not much on SE, but you might try: Save (copy) the *.idx file. Drop and recreate the table with the same structure (fields and keys). Move the old *.idx file back. Use a SELECT statement that mentions only the columns in the index, and has ORDER BY in the same order as the index key columns, and unload the select statement to a file ("UNLOAD TO xxx SELECT ..."). This should cause the optimizer to do a key-only retrieval. Let us know if this works. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Jim Burks jburks@promus.com ~ ~ Database Administrator / Systems Engineer ~ ~ The Promus Companies, Inc.
