Hello. IDS 11.50 FC8W2 on a Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 box. Does anybody know if when this message is generated 10/20/11 02:14:42 VP Notify mechanism incomplete after 5 minutes. This can be due to slow network file access. Will try 12 more times If there's actually an event generated by the engine that the alarmprogram will catch? Thanks. Jamie
Already happen this with me.
At the end of the count down your instance will crash.
Get all dumps, (onstats) you can to try identify later what happend.
On my case was a defect related with onstat -g stk light execution ...

The engine doesn't crash. We see very high load on the machine and OS
becomes unresponsive. The problem is The socket listeners are still
responding to connecting (ssh, db, etc), so some of the normal monitoring
doesn't indicate that there's a problem, so the problem can go on for hours
overnight.
If the engine were to alarm when this message occurs, we can at least get
some notification when it starts to happen and troubleshoot from there.

ok, your case is totally different situation what append with me...
AFAIK there is no trap to use...
try write some script to identify when the "vp notify" appear on you
log and capture fews of onstat -g act" and "onstat -g stk" over the
threads what are running over the VP ... check if have some stranger...
I suggest also generate a stack trace of all VP pids , because have
chance to not get anything with " -g stk".
(on my situation, only using procstack/AIX to discovery the stack trace
of the TID.)
(on linux you can use strace);

You could trap all alarms with Severity = 1, then do a pattern match on the
"additional text" parameter (4th one) to see if you can catch it.
