This is usually not a problem for the sort of Apps : which are typically written in Access, but your mileage may vary. As you : say, the upside is the vastly reduced sysadmin requirements. A client of mine just bought about 18 months of extra time to upgrade the back end to SQL Server by upgrading to a 100Mbps network (all but six of the NICs were already auto-switching, so they just dropped in a new hub, and bingo -- added speed). No, the app is still inefficient and needs to be re-designed (it's currently being used in a context that exceeds the originally conceived operating conditions), but now the performance is quite acceptable for users, whereas at 10Mbps, it was getting slower and slower. Just a band-aid, yes, but one that makes it possible to do the migration right, instead of having to rush it. -- David W.
