Hold on now Daniel. I respect your opinion, but I think you were
responding to Noons who may have been getting a little heady in his/her
posting.
I am getting this thread via an Informix news thread....
I'd bet on informix's onbar against most offerings.
I'm not sure it can replace a single bad "block" (that would be a page
or an extent for us. Block, in oracle can be a configurable number
based on o/s page-size, yes?.... page for Informix tied closely to o/s
page size, but I think in IDS 10, we're flexing that.)
I am not experienced enough with oracle to bet my onbar skills against
an experienced oracle dba's rman skills.

What would that be? You're not talking RAC or something are you?
Norma Jean
(my opinion, not that of my employer)

An Oracle block is equal to an Informix page. Extent means the same
thing in Oracle and Informix ... and yes RMAN will now identify and
recover a single block/page.

RMAN. Included, at no additional cost, in the Oracle license. This has
nothing to do with RAC.
