Storing SE tables on different disks

Is there an easy way to store particular tables in an SE database on different drives? For example, if I wanted to create my SE database in /usr/se.dbs and wanted to store the items table on another drive, how would I do it? It seems to me that my only option would be to: 1. Create the items table 2. Move the .dat and .idx files to the new drive 3. Create symbolic links to the new files Sounds pretty kludgy to me. Are there better ways?
