If I recall correctly (I used to be on the ROM development team), It can connect, but it is not supported. I am pretty certain that it must be an SE 7.x engine. The oldest versions of ROM are the most likely to support SE. Version 1.0 of ROM may have even supported SE 5. No versions earlier that 5 were ever supported.
