Dear All,
Following is the output of a utility which works like prstat,on Solaris 8, IDS
9.40 UC2.
I shall be much obliged if someone can help me understand the NICE part of this
output, Minus value started appearing once we have change the number of locks
from 10000 to 100,000. Any other observation/suggestion will highly be
appreciated, as check pointing is taking long time (13~17 seconds).
load averages: 1.03, 0.97, 0.86; up 600+01:15:29 17:05:34
171 processes: 164 sleeping, 3 running, 2 zombie, 2 on cpu
CPU states: 46.1% idle, 40.1% user, 12.9% kernel, 0.8% iowait, 0.0% swap
Memory: 4096M phys mem, 1034M free mem, 512M swap, 507M free swap
PID USERNAME LWP PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND
12844 informix 4 42 -10 1259M 1068M run 49:57 26.10% oninit
13510 swx 13 59 0 176M 39M sleep 19:31 24.30% java

13423 swx 1 59 0 4968K 4200K sleep 3:21 3.19% ifc_andc_
12856 informix 4 59 -10 1258M 5520K run 2:28 2.59% oninit
12855 informix 4 59 -10 1258M 5584K sleep 2:50 2.39% oninit
I sincerly wish to thank everyone at IIUG for their support.
the NICE part in the output means oninit is running at a higher priority
than the other processes. You can read the nice man ( man nice) besides
the ps man .
A fragment from the nice man:
" The super-user may run commands with priority higher
than normal by using a negative increment such as -10.
A negative increment assigned by an unprivileged user
is ignored."
I hope this help you. Regards.
