Seriously, have you called your > > Informix rep and asked to get in on beta tests, product evaluations, etc? > [SNIP] {You get the idea...} In Tim's defense, I'll point out a few unknown facts: First, your mileage will vary when it comes to sales reps. I have know quite a few sales reps, and sales management over the last several years. Some have been excellent, some have been good, and well, some have been piss poor. This is one of the reasons Informix has re-organized their sales force in several areas. (Heck, *I* could probably sell some of the products better than some of their salesmen ;-) [Whoops! I'm going to get cooked for that one!] Second, unless you work for a very big Informix shop, you will NOT, get the following chances: 1) To be on the Customer Advisory board to Informix. (I forget the real name, but its the big dog group which has direct input to Phil baby ;-) 2) You will not get the chance to participate in their Beta Program. Unless you are a major customer, yada, yada, yada. 3) Certain products exist out of a political need. New Era was created what 5-6 years ago when the current slew of development tools didn't exist. 4) You have to remember one of the problems which Informix had was that they believed their marketing hype. I mean to say is that while the technology is there, there are several glitches which don't make it ready for prime time. This always exists, however it has gotten bad over the past year or so. Hint: Look at the release of Online 7.x from its announcement to its general availability. While I don't agree with the idea of posting a wish/whine list, I think that it does show the degree of frustration felt by the little guy who has to support the products sold by a marketing guy to his upper management. Oh, I mispoke. If you happen to have a copy of Universal Server, then you *ARE* in the beta test program. ;-) [LIBERAL toungue in cheek! 8^] [Shit eating grin] Just a few thoughts from your favorite Uncle! -Mikey -- #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ #include <No_Spam.h> #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT The author takes no responsibility for this post.
