Informix 7.x and AIX 4.x SMP

I was just asked about migration of our application from Informix 4.1 and AIX 3.2.5 to Informix 7.x. The client is trying to put several applications on a single server rather than distribute it across two or more hosts. Although we are investigating this, my impression is that running on an SMP box will be the best technical solution. My questions are: 1. Is AIX 4.x on an SMP box a 'stable' release of AIX? Previous problems with 3.1.xnformix-list@rmy.emory.edu still haunt me. 2. What problems have people encountered in migrating from 4.1 tools to the latest release? We read the mailing list and have noted most of the issues specific to the engine update such as rowid, but I am interested in comments from the trenches. 3. Can we keep our 4.1 compiled apps running under the 7.x engine? 4. Any other general comments? I will summarize any and all input and post the summary. Thanks in advance. -- Paul Begley Internet: peb@scdipc0.ueci.com CAD/CAE Development Mgr cc:Mail : pbegley@ccgate.ueci.com Raytheon Engineers & Constructors Voice: 215-422-3997 Philadelphia, PA FAX: 215-422-4095 The last bug isn't fixed until the last user is dead. - _Wired_
