The API level of ESQL/C did not change between 5.0x and 7.xx with the exception of new features. Existing code will compile and run as expected, just faster. There are many new features of ESQL/C 7.23 that you may want to recode to get, ex: Multiple connections (much faster than accessing remote tables over the local connection), thread-safe libraries, shared libraries for smaller memory and disk footprint better connection and timeout management, etc. Compilation precautions: The underlying generated code and library functions called by it HAVE changed so make sure to delete any left over .c and .o files if there is a risk that your makefiles may use these. Makefiles which use the system linker (ld) or C compiler driver (cc) to link may have problems. There are new libraries, others have gone away and many have been moved to different directories. The best thing is to change scripts and make files to use esql to link so that you are independent of these kind of changes in the future. Otherwise, compile and go. BTW with the Remote Module (sqlrm) you can continue to run your 5.0x compiled executables while taking the time to recode the source to take better advantage of new features. Performance is at least as good as native 5.0x access and bugs in early versions of sqlrm were fixed in all versions 7.13 and later. Art S. Kagel
