My news server is not real timely, and so I'm following up based upon emails I've recieved regarding this. Sounds like there is a big opportunity out there for this. Informix - if you're watching, pay attention. I get the "can we do Informix on Linux" question all the time, and since I am not a dba, I can never answer it! My expertise is in networking and cross-platform integration - so I'll have to take you db-peoples' word for it. I know dba's who want to experiment and try it, but never have the time ... that means those who have it working probably don't have time to document it or never thought to or were worried about "mentioning additional usage" of their company's Informix warez ... What I sense is that somehow Informix is in the pocket of the commercial Unix OEMs, and the commercial Unix OEMs don't want it on Linux. This would cut them out of the $ale ... If you all are interested, I am willing to write the "Linux HOWTO" for it, I just need details, etc. Real info, not theory. Perhaps those who have done it can supply some notes or material ... (And yes, I am Tim Schaefer's twin brother) ;) -tks-
