HELP! Can't get Illustra Server off tapes!

I've got Illustra Server on a DDS tape. I have an IRIX 6.2 machine and a SCSI tape drive (a label on the bottom of the drive says "HP C1533-E"). I've managed to get the installation tar file off the tape by attaching the drive to a PC and using some Linux rescue disks, but that's as far as I got, partly because I don't know how to turn off auto-rewind (let alone if the command I need is on the rescue disks), and partly because the installation script doesn't seem to be flexible enough to install off something besides a local or remote tape drive. I'm sure I need to know a device name (like /dev/rmt/xxx or something), but do I need to do some config tweaking as well?
