Re: IIUG Board election results

With the upcoming IIUG board elections has anybody stopped and reviewed the accountability the current board has to its own membership? Where does the money go? IBM and sponsors contribute a significant amount of money to the IIUG every year. The question should be - who spends the actual money? With a not-for-profit organization it should be expected that the spending is more visible to the members, but that has never been permitted. How is this all allowed to happen? Simple really, this IBM Insider has learned that if you discuss board business at all then you will be forced to leave the board. However, as in all dictatorships, although all board members are created equal some are more equal than others. Disagree with the IIUG management then you are out. This IBM Insider has heard a recent request from IBM to the IIUG to review the IIUG books was blocked NOT by the IIUG board but by one of the senior IBM executives. Why would they want to do that? Surely IBM, and other sponsors for that matter, have a right to know where their money is being spent. Maybe the IBM executive was one of the select few that gets wined and dined and entertained at the expense of the IIUG. The same favoritism exists within the board hierarchy. If you are one of the favored few, then you might expect the odd present; a new phone, a new iPod, and a reward is certain if you've just done the IIUG leaders a favor. While many on the board fund their own meals when on IIUG events, there are some that dip into the IIUG expense fund at will and thousands of dollars are regularly spent making sure the IIUG management doesn't change. Maybe it's time for a change in the board and particularly the leadership. Does the IIUG membership really want a board that serves them or one that serves itself?

I'm no apologist for the IIUG or for Stuart Litel (although I do like Stuart). But in my experience: 1. No topics, conversations or points of view were excluded or ostracised 2. IIUG members were generally "wined and dined" by IBM execs, not the other way around 3. All my basic expenses as an IIUG Board member were always refunded by IBM. Eventually ;-) I can understand IBM and the sponsors wanting to know where "their" money goes. As I recall, the part of the IIUG which controlled the finances was actually a limited-liability corporation registered in a US state (can't remmber which one but it wasn't one of the ones for licensed bandits like Delaware).

If you think you can do a better job with the resources the IIUG membership gives the IIUG, knock yourself out. :o) I wondered if it would be ironic for me to make a comment about someone anonymous attacking someone known, on the internet, but then the space-time continuum ripped and I disappeared up my own arsehole. -- Bye now, Obnoxio "There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense.
