Database Reorganisation

Afternoon all !! I have a Baan database which needs re-organising. It has in excess of 8500 tables, most of which are okay but about 300 or so tables are massively fragmented and about 150 or so are wasting space. The database is about 14GB (so, not very big) but I only have about 400MB free within the dbspace. I know from past experience of re-organising this database that the dbspace the database is on will fill if I only do these tables (plus I need to make sure there is enough space to cater for the re-sized tables). My dilema is this. I only have 36 hours (to save the earth) in order to achieve a full re-organisation (running on a HP 9000, 3 processors, running HPUX 10.2, Online 7.24.UC5) What would you say is the quickest way to do it ?? (Bearing in mind that baan table names can not be re-created using HPL ). I wait with baited breath. TIA Sean
If you don't want to add a chunk to the dbspace to allow you to do ALTER FRAGMENT INIT on the relevant tables, how about dbexporting the whole lot, changing the first extent/next extent sizes as appropriate, then re-import? Based on my 32GByte datababase you should be able to do all this in 12-18 hours. If you do, don't forget to do an UPDATE STATISTICS when you've finished. Hi Vlad Have you looked at you $BSE/lib/inf_storage file - set up data and indices entries for the tables you want to defrag, specify the first and next extent sizes then you can perform a reorg of the table from Baan tools and it will defrag the table. How about dumping a company, setting up the inf_storage file and then importing the company. What Baan version are you running b3, c3, c4 ? -- Fergus Hayne HP-UX / Informix / Baan Administrator Brand-Rex Limited EMail: fhayne@brand-rex.com Vlad the Impailer <chilliinc@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:37cd2455@isoit370.bbn.hp.com... > Afternoon all !! > > I have a Baan database which needs re-organising.
