Maximum Server connections

Hi all,
we are a little bit confused concerning the NETTYPE-Parameter. The third
parameter is documented as being "the maximum number of concurrent users".
What does that exactly mean?
Currently our setting is
NETTYPE soctcp,5,350,NET
Does that mean, that only 350 connections are allowed at the same time?
Is this parameter related to the following message in online.log:
Maximum server connections 333
Thanks for any advices!
Bye
Markus
Hi,
NETTYPE means:The "kind" of connection 'soctcp' (onsoctcp) will run 5 Threads and
350 users are allowed by each of this 5 threads.
You can sei almost : 5 * 350 = 1750. Then 1750 users can connect in
the IDS instance at same time, using soctcp connection.
i.e. You can config one more: NETTYPE ipcshm,1,50,NET to use direct
connections in UNIX systems as using dbaccess, etc.
IBM Informix support strongly suggest to use at least processors # or
processors # - 1 threads.
I mean: IF your server is 6 processors you must configurate 6 or less
threads in NETTYPE.
Perhaps it helps you. R. Ferronato

For tcp type connections the maximum is an initial limit which will
automatically expand as needed. Also the number of allocated connection
structures is per NET VP so your 5.350 is actually allocating for 1750
connections spread across 5 VPs initially.
For shared memory connection types the number of connections in the NETTYPE
IS indeed a hard limit as the #connections * #VPs is used to allocate shared
memory segments (the 'M' segments reported by onstat -g mem) so that limit is
an absolute ceiling, but again it is the product of the number of connections
per VP and the number of NET or CPU VPs configured to listen.
