Re: Upgrading from 7.24 to 7.30

Have just boarded the same ship and had lots of trouble.
Before you start up 7.3 make sure that you have read the file MIGRATE_7.3 in
the release notes directory and ensure that you have got all the patches and
settings loaded as recommended. Running on Solaris there is some 40MB of
operating system patches that need to be installed.
I am still busy with the upgrade/downgrade etc. We ran into some more bugs
on 7.3 (we had bugs on 7.23 which instigated the upgrade). 7.3 would crash
with an insertion error when doing a level 0 archive. 7.23 had assertion
errors on Client Server connections.
On doing the reversioning more trouble was found. Several table
alterations were made under the newly installed 7.3 which the reversion
failed on. The 'In Place' update statement was run on all the tables
(fortunately I could remember all those that were altered) and the
reversioning (7.3 down to 7.2) ran through. 12 hours later all 4GL
application started failing with a -597 - Premature end of buffer.
On running a 'oncheck' errors after the reversion were also returned and it
ended up that the system catalogue had all the required entries for specific
tables, yet the tablespace could not be found. I am at this moment
reconfiguring to go back to 7.3 (that is where mu last archive & log backup
is) as to export the database. Hopefully after the latest set of patches
installed 7.3 will remain stable.
Will keep you informed.
BTW. What OS are you on currently?
