Email doc@informix.com and report a documentation error? This is not an entirely facetious suggestion; it is the correct procedure for reporting problems with the documentation. Alternatively, you can contact Informix Tech Support and report a bug -- an unimplemented feature. Either way, the current products do not support the EXIT PROMPT statement, contrary to what the documentation (reputedly) says. Since I don't have a copy of the docs for 7.2 I4GL (I make do with my ancient 4.0 set plus the supplements), I can't verify your assertion that EXIT PROMPT is documented feature -- none of my manuals mention it. So, when you report the problem, quote the document part number and date (inside the front cover). As to workaround, I guess the best that can be done is either to use RETURN instead of EXIT PROMPT (which would probably require modifications to the code containing the PROMPT statement, factoring the PROMPT into a function), or to use a GOTO to break the PROMPT statement: PROMPT "Hello?" FOR whatever ON KEY(F64) LET fk = "F64" GOTO end_prompt END PROMPT LABEL end_prompt: I can hardly say "Puke" fast enough -- I don't like it at all -- but it is about all I can think of in a hurry.
