But it seems to me that, despite the learning curve, the development cost should be lower than using a standard relational database as so many WEB, Text and Storage facilities come built in, instead of us having to handle them in code. On top of this Informix have stated that, if you follow their published rules for coding Illustra applications, the migration to the Universal server should be a straight forward transfer without code changes. I suspect that this won't be entirely true, but a good attempt on Informix's part, should make the migration relatively simple.
