Does anyone out there have a way / process to limit the number of connections to IDS 9.4. I have a single server running on AIX 5.3 and need a way to cap the connections to the database server to comply with our license count. I cannot find a way to set it using the onconfig file or environment variables. Please help.

The product of the number of connections per poll thread and the number of poll threads is a hard limit on shared memory connections. If you also have to support TCP or other network connections or stream pipe connections, then the limit in the NETTYPE for those connections types is auto-expanding so it won't work as a limit. Beyond that, there's no way to limit connections except to actively monitor the sysmaster:syssessions table periodically and kill processes that exceed your limit, or raise your licenses or convert to a CPU based license. IBM or your IDS vendor or PA partner can help you determine the most cost effective licensing scheme. We do the analysis for our clients, your vendor should be willing to as well. Art S.
