error -908: why?

hi there; here is the situation: i installed an informix db a couple of months ago, and it has woked fine. when i tried to connect to the database, i got error -908: attempt to connect to database server failed. i checked my environment vars..and they are the same as always. same goes for sqlhosts.ifmx and onconfig. what are some possible reasons i can no longer connect to the db server?? tia; jamie
