First, *BUILD YOUR SYSTEM FROM SCRATCH*!!! You will see definate system performance issues if you chose to do the upgrade path. By doing this, you have more control of the build process. Then Id use the vg groups to build your raw partitions. Just makesure you leave the first 4 or 8k of the disk free. Then you can use the OS level of mirroring of disk space.
