Re: how to convert datatypes ?

Do you expect answers when you start out with an attack? In this case I'll say sometingh anyway, but may be you should start out with an RTFM. And your language is? 4GL, NewEra, ESQL/C? It looks like 4GL or NewEra from your let-statement. This works fine for me, and have for so many years I can't remember the first time I did it. That's in 4GL and works in NewEra as well. :Then I browsed the manuals for 'convert' w/o success. When I do a :LET Stmt = VARCHAR( foo ); If you did: LET Stmt = foo it would get converted automatically if at all possible. If you want to catch errors you sould check out the whenever any error compiler directive. :it thinks VARCHAR is a procedure --- Arrgh! Yes. Did you find this statement in the manuals. RTFM first. Any professional programming in any language assumes you read the manual. You should read everything. :Then I browsed for string functions - nothing, no MID, LEFT, RIGHT... Browsed? Do you expect to be able to do much by simply browsing the manual for statements you are familiar with from other languages. Didn't they teach you how to do these things at school. Read manuals I mean. :Have they been exhausted by implementing 'LENGTH' ? MID, LEFT and RIGHT can be done via this syntax: let p_string = p_otherstring[x,y] where x and y are variables or literals. There are some things lacking in string manipulation, but the above are not it. There are several extra functions available in the software repository at http://www.iiug.org :If someone what's to implement a shit app - forget it Informix already did :it ! And that was? Next time you post please check your premises.
