You can use anything that generates ASCII text files, of course, so notepad/write/ or about any word process would do, although IMHO Codewright is worth the money (ok, I admit I put it in vi emulation mode - I'm an old dog). At a recent NewEra 3.0 features presentation, the ability to use Codewright in the code window of the Window Painter was cited. I don't know if you'll be able to use the editor of choice there, or if only Codewright will work.
