Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
The poster asked whether Enterprise Replication can replicate selected tables between two databases living in the same Informix instance, after getting "duplicate server or replicate (53)". His reason: two databases formerly on separate machines/instances had been merged into one instance, and he wanted replication as a stopgap so the application wouldn't have to be repointed. Madison Pruet answered that ER cannot do this — you'd need triggers to copy rows to another table in the same instance. Keith Simmons suggested synonyms as the simpler fix for the pointing problem.

Does anyone know if you can replicate databases in the same instance ?
From the mesage i am getting it looks like you cant
see error message below
replicate: res_accept_survey
command failed -- duplicate server or replicate (53)
there is no replicate of that name so I assume that it refers to the server
name being duplicate
I don't see how you could replicate databases in the same instance unless they
shared the same dbspaces because everything has to be the same. That being the
case, what would it buy you to have 2 databases using the same space?

I forgot to say we are using enterprise replication and only want to replicate
some tables

I'm not sure the question is 'can you' as much as 'why would you want to'?
What are your trying to achive by holding your data twice in the same place?

no.
You would need to use triggers to replicate to another table on the sam=
e
instance.

why we wnat to replicate tin the same instance is because we had the 2
databases in diffrent instances on diffrent unix machines in diffrent zones.
One inside the firewall one outside the fire wall.
We have merged the databases into one instance on one machine.Howevber the
application still ponting to the datbase that was inside the firewall. So as a
temp measure we wanted to replicate some tables to save changing the
application to point at the other database

Karl
Synonyms would seem to be the solution for which you are searching.
