UDO (complex data), XPS (massive scalability) and extreme OLTP. Where is IFMX merely competitive? Commodity SQL-92 DBMS. The idea is to focus the technical strengths on customers who need the excellence. : Informix loses sales because they do not convey trust. IFMX loses sales for lots of reasons. Sometimes it's trust. Sometimes it's financials. Sometimes it's simply that the check-signer wants to CHA and go with the market leader. : There is a FUD factor. And Informix can't beat that. : Oracle competes against Informix based on two things: : 1) FUD : 2) End to End solutions. Informix doesn't have the Professional : Services staff in place to do that. Sybase does. Oracle does. : Informix needs to. Informix has the *product*. Oracle doesn't. Sybase doesn't. Look at the new positioning. It's expressed in terms of problems/solutions. I agree about the prof. services criticisms, and if you'd like to work for IFMX I'm sure there's be gratitude aplenty. : You aren't selling the right product. And what, IYHO, is 'the right product'? So far as the PWSC (people who sign checks) are concerned, the right product is one that fires all their developers! : The salesman also has to look beyond the sale. Take the client : from cradle to grave. The salesman has to manage the account. Fine. But the discussion was about *product marketing*. All of this is true regardless of whether you're selling sex or satellites. : By selling only to upper management, the guy with the p/l : responsibility, you blow the sale. Hello? I will repeat something. Techie types get it. They are IFMX supporters. Techie types understand. BUT THEY DON'T SIGN CHECKS. Understanding the products the way you do, are you going elsewhere? Forever, the complaint has been that the vendor who gave the p/l customer the better golf game got the deal. You're saying that you don't really care about the technology - you'd rather be playing golf? : Quit whining and making excuses. "The beatings will continue until morale improves." What the heck has 'whining' got to do with recognizing certain market realities and trying something new/different?
