Re: Problem installing IDS 7.23TC6 on NT4 with SP4

When NT SP4 released a few weeks ago, we sacrificed one of our test servers to see what would happen if we took the plunge and installed it. We installed SP4 on a server that already had Informix 7.23 running (well) on SP3; the database never initialized after rebooting from the SP4 install. Since it was a test server, we re-installed NT from the ground up, applying SP4 only and not SP3 first. When we tried to install DS 7.23, we got the problem you cited, exactly. We called Informix directly and asked the question whether DS 7.23 and SP4 worked together. The reply was that SP4 is currently 'unsupported with Informix products.' This was as of SP4 release plus a week (however long ago that was). We re-installed NT and DS 7.23 from scratch, using SP3, and things worked just the way they always had. So... my advice would be not to use WinNT 4.0 SP4 on any server that also includes DS 7.23. I don't know if this is an option in your shop, but I don't have any other solution. I would, however, be interested to know exactly why this problem occurs, as you probably are. -- Don H.
