Access 97/Excel/Informix-CLI

I've been putzing around with trying to get a simple query returned into Excel, and am at the point where more putzing around would likely just be a waste of time, especially given the error I'm getting. The error is as follows: [INTERSOLV][ODBC Informix driver]Error parsing connect string at offset 95. Attribute '=' specified more than once. Seems pretty clear to me, but turning on tracing and looking at the SQL.LOG trace reveals a different story. The actual connect string is 92 characters long; there is no offset 95. But wait! I see from the arguments passed to SQLDriverConnect that it is -telling- the driver the connection string is actually 184 characters long. I speculate that there's some garbage out beyond the end of the connect string, and that the driver is naively trusting that the pinhead who programmed the call is correct. I have some other problems with the way MSQuery is using the connection string (why on God's green earth use the DRIVER string rather than the more useful DSN string?), but Informix-CLI seems to be handling that, though I can see the possibility of trouble on the horizon. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and managed to find some way around it? -- William Harris william@carsinfo.com
