RE: Can I alias dbaccess to be isql ?

ISQL and 4Gl are two independant products and one does not contain
the other, neither, as far as I am aware, are either available as
trials.
Yes, your best option (other than editing every script !!) is to
cd $INFORMIXDIR/bin and run 'ln -s dbaccess isql'

Subject: Can I alias dbaccess to be isql ?
Hello,
It's these legacy things which make life interesting.
I was handed a server which was/is running on a Solaris 7 / IDS 7.31
system that is to be retired. It has isql 7.20 version (1999 file
date) on it also.
For testing I have moved some databases over to a Solaris 8 / IDS
9.30 system.
It turns out that there is an application which has a large number of
shell and perl scripts which have code which looks like
isql $dbname commandfile.sql > output-to-be-parsed-in-the-script
So, isql is not here on this 9.30 install and IBM's web site
indicates that I can get Informix 4GL (which I assume - am I wrong ?)
has isql in it, but I can't download a trial version, so I don't know
if the current version of 4GL will work for me.
I tried copying the binaries and lib files from the 7.31 system to a
path on the Solaris 8 system and I got as far as as "25572 Network
driver cannot bind a name to the port" error message which seems to be
(according to a web search) something that happens with Solaris 8 or
higher and to fix you need ISQL of 7.30(somepathlevel) or higher which
we do not have.
So for these scripts, ***which as far as I can tell do not use
forms***, here is my question:
Can I do a link of dbaccess to isql so that all these scripts will be
invoking dbaccess instead of isql ?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
- Cedric
