I-Star and cross-engine joins

We've got multiple Informix databases and engines running - some are even different versions, but all are On-Line. In an effort to minimize the (already existing) data redundancy, can we use I-Star to create cross-engine views and joins? That is, we've got a Personnel table (doesn't everyone?) in one system and we want to use the information in another system. Can we just make a view into the first systems and save some DASD?
