IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.UC9 Software Serial Number AAA#B000000 seems like a dumb question but what exactly is a external index ? This is a spatial database, The index is created via ArcSDE i think. External Index Usage Report for index a13_ix1 on stby0513:stby0513.parcels from dbschema create index "stby0513".a13_ix1 on "stby0513".parcels (shape st_geometry_ops) using rtree ; from oncheck -pt i see this extra stuff External Index Usage Report for index a13_ix1 on stby0513:stby0513.parcels Tree Depth: 5 Internal Pages: 3900 Leaf Pages: 93574 Empty Pages: 0 Total Pages: 97474 Root page items: 6 Leaf Page Tuples: 2152183 Internal Page Tuples: 97473 Avg. Leaf Page Tuples per Leaf Page: 23.0 Space utilization: Total Space: 199626752 Free Space: 375892 Total Page Overhead: 61885444 User Data Space: 137365416 User Free Space: 54274136 User Page Overhead: 53898244 Total: user data: 68.8%, free 0.2%, overhead 31.0% User Pages Only: data 71.7%, free 27.2%, overhead 28.1%

It just means that the index was created with a different primary access method other than btree. Art Art S.
