Did you install it correctly, both SE and ESQL/C in one informix directory. There is a howto that will soon be posted to http://www.iiug.org. In the meantime you should be able to find a post of mine on 98/07/30 with an early version of this. If you use seipcpip as the communication protocol (the second entry on each line in the sqlhosts file) you don't need to start the sqlexecd demon at all. The sqlexec-process is started automatically whenever a program connects to a database. This uses unnamed pipes so you can only connect localy. If you use sesoctcp tcp/ip connection is used and you must start the sqlexecd demon. It's found in the $INFORMIXDIR/lib directory. You must log in as root to start it. Make sure the $INFORMIXDIR environement variable is set first. You start it with the dbservername (the first entry on each line in the sqlhosts-file) as a parameter and optionally -l logfile to log connection activity.
