Oracle SCN/Informix and Golden Gate
Posted in 2016
IDS 11.5.FC8, AIX 7.1 Golden Gate is being used to replicate from IDS to Oracle. Instantiation is proving "interesting", and my Oracle counterpart has asked a few times if we have an equivalent to their SCN which they use to get read-consistent snaps of tables to instantiate if O-to-O. Our LSN should be enough I think to point back to logid:0xlogpos to start rolling forward from the image used. Order: Golden Gate replication is running against production. We turn off the replicat until instantiation is complete. 1. restore test engine from production. 2. roll forward logs. 3. get current LSN 4. unload X tables from test engine that is in single-user. 5. load them into Oracle engine. 6. turn on replicat in Golden Gate, starting at LSN I captured from test against production. Can anyone think of a better way to capture a point-in-time and instantiate? Downtime/outage is out of the question - that's why we used a test engine to restore prod image and instantiate from there. We don't have HDR/RSS, etc. setup although we're considering scrapping GG and finally setting up HDR/RSS and letting the dashboard apps being created from this query at their leisure. (Which I would prefer anyway). We're only finding a few minor discrepancies, which I would expect. But we keep revisiting the SCN vs. LSN concept. Thanks!
