ontape Archive failed - Error changing logging sta
Posted in 2007
Frank's attempt to switch a database to unbuffered logging during a level-0 backup (ontape -s -L 0 -U noaa) failed with "Error changing logging status... iserrno 107" while users were connected; it worked after he killed the user sessions. Respondents explained the cause: changing logging status requires an exclusive lock on the database, so any session attached to or locking it blocks the change (ISAM 107 = record/table locked). Suggested workarounds: identify holders via onstat -g sql or an SMI lock query, take the server to single-user/quiescent mode (onmode -j/-s/-u, then -m), restart the instance, or use ondblog followed by a level-0 backup.

Hi,
Got this error when tried to ontape,
informix@dolly $ ontape -s -L 0 -U noaa
Archive failed - Error changing logging status - 'noaa'. iserrno 107.
It could be done when I killed the user sessions.
any idea?
Thanks,
Frank

if you do 'onstat -g sql | grep noaa' do you get anything back?

Unfortunately, I already finished "ontape -s -L 0 -U noaa" by killing all
the user sessions.
So, onstat -g sql | grep noaa' will not give the expected result.
My question is , what is the reason for error?
The command is to change db logging mode from nolog to unbuf when there is
active user sessions there.
Thanks,
Frank

Probably requires that no user sessions are attached to a database to
change it's logging status.

You need to remove all locking sessions against the database before turning on
logging. That's what I've come to realize when I perform this function.

Hi,
While the logging status of a DB is being changed, the server places an
exclusive lock on the DB to prevent other users from accessing it, and frees
the lock when the change is complete.
Maybe the SMI query in the following article (how to get the locked objects
within a database, when isam 107 is returned by dbexport utility), returns
something to you, related to the locked object, so you can take actions
based on this?
dbexport reports SQL error -425 ISAM error -107
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21221129
Other options you could consider:
- go to single user mode (onmode -j) or quiescent (onmode -s/-u) and issue
the ontape, and go to multi-user mode later (onmode -m) afterwards, if you
can disconnect other users.
- run the ondblog and then perform a level-0 backup.
Regards,
Veronica.

If possible, Shutdown and restart the database .. then run ontape.
