Physical log and checkpoints

All, Informix 11.70.FC5. A question about whether it is better to increase the size of the physical log or to reduce the checkpoint interval. I have an instance which has recently had some work done to it which has sped up the rate at which transactions are processed. This has had the knock-on affect of filling up the physical log quicker than it did before. The checkpoint interval is currently set to 5 minutes. This instance is monitored and if the size of the physical log exceeds 60% then an alarm is raised. This is now happening and I am wondering whether it is better to increase the size of the physical log or to reduce the checkpoint interval to say 4 minutes. I looked at the checkpoints and they are consistently less than 2 seconds. Your thoughts please?
The longer between checkpoints the more data is at risk if your system takes a hard crash. With transactions coming in faster that alone is putting more data at risk. More so if your databases are using BUFFERED LOG mode. So, while I might increase the physical log anyway, just in case, I would shorten the checkpoint interval as well. Art Art S.
