Shared memory connections
Posted in 1996
I am attempting to define two dbserver aliases (one for the DB-Cockpit, one for
our Non-client/Server users who are using character-based Fourgen).
One HAS to be Shared memory (DB-Cockpit, per the manual), the other I would
LIKE to be shared memory (for performance).
In the "Administrator's Guide, Vol 1 (ver 7.1)" p 4-34, it states "put an entry
in the sqlhosts file for each database server /connection type pair". From
this, I interpret that the combination of dbservername and nettype has to be
unique.
I think I've done this (see below), and can connect to the first alias, but I am
unable to connect to the second alias (the fourgen alias). I receive "25588:
The appl process cannot connect to OnLine server dfsun001fourgen. Interrupted
system call"
It appears I can have only one nettype (connection type) defined PER HOST, not
per dbservername (that is, I can only have one sqlhosts entry of 'onipcshm' for
a given host).
Is this a true statement, and did I originally misunderstand the manual, or is
there actually a problem here?
I had wanted descriptive INFORMIXSERVER names, rather than some generic
'xxxxshmem' INFORMIXSERVER name.
Any clarification greatly appreciated.
