Sounds to me like one or both of two problems: 1) You do not have the correct indexes to support the verifications that the stored procedure is performing for you and it get progressively slower as the tables get larger. 2) There is so little data in the tables that adding 500 transactions skews the statistics so that the optimizer is making poor decisions. To test the latter try updating statistics according the the release notes in the Informix install directory in file: $INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333/SERVERS_7.2 To test the former run the SQL in the stored procedure, and even from the application, under SET EXPLAIN ON to determine the optimizer's path. If it is doing table scans ou probably need indexes added. If statistics are part of the problem, you will have to update stats (at least the UPDATE STATISTICS LOW...) frequently until the tables are full enough that a few hundred new rows will not invalidate the stats.
