Prior to version 7.3, there definitely was no syntax to allow you to edit what was inserted into the database with a trigger. There was a discussion of this in c.d.i earlier this year, and I contributed to it so you could probably find that discussion via DejaNews (www.dejanews.com). I think I heard, but I have not verified, that this has been relaxed with the 7.30 servers. You'd have to go digging in the documentation, probably under CREATE TABLE.
