Informix 7.30.UC6 installation question
Posted in 1999
I have a smallish problem concerning the installation of Informix IDS 7.30.UC6 and I4GL (including RDS and ID) 7.20.UD6, ISQL 7.20.UD6 on a HP-UX 10.20 system. We were already using IDS 7.30.UC5 (and I4GL/ISQL 7.20.UD4) installed into /opt/informix when we received the new 7.30.UC6 versions of IDS (and I4GL/ISQL), this was to fix some bugs in 7.20.UD4 that we had reported. Now, as the system was relatively busy one, and because I didn't have much free space in /opt (or rather now that 7.30 directory now takes over 200Mb!) I installed the new versions to /work/informix (I set $INFORMIXDIR to /work/informix prior to installing the software), copied in my onconfig files and sqlhosts files to the new $INFORMIXDIR/etc. Then after hours when the system wasn't being used I moved /opt/informix to another filesystem and copied in the new informix directory (cp -rp /work/informix /opt/informix), I then restarted our three instances and they all came up and the applications seemed happy. Later on though, I tried to rebuild our custom runner using cfgldb and got the following linker errors: /opt/informix/bin/cfgldb -DRDS_RUNNER -DRDB_RUNNER fgiusr.c cfuncs.c cpaffns.c cor_cfuncs.c cor_sockets.c dynbind.c fgiusr.c: cfuncs.c: cpaffns.c: cor_cfuncs.c: cor_sockets.c: dynbind.c: /usr/ccs/bin/ld: Unsatisfied symbols: fatalmem (code) fdataval (code) sm_getdel (code) quit_flag (data) int_flag (data) referrline (code) fvaldata (code) _efsiginit (code) toolbus (data) I've checked that the links that the Informix install sets up in /usr/lib are correct and they seem to be, I have "iosm07a.sl", "ipldd07a.sl" and "liborb_r.sl" all pointing to /opt/informix/lib . (libbsa.sl in $INFORMIXDIR/lib/tools did not have a symbolic link setup in /usr/lib so I linked it anyway to no success!). It looks like I'm going to have to schedule some downtime to reinstall Informix and the tools into a clean (empty) /opt/informix directory, unless someone can advise otherwise. Is it a no-no to install Informix somewhere else and then move it to the pukka $INFORMIXDIR (/opt for us)? Cheers -- Simon Barber
