Imaging 3rd parties

While this is not directly related to Informix other than Informix has multimedia stuff in it , I need to get some solid references for 3rd parties. We are looking for companies that integrate multimedia HW (OCR,scanner.. whatever) to relational engines, offer services like feasibility studies etc. The target environment is VAX/VMS or RS/6000 and the underlying database will be INTERBASE. I would also like to get some 'non marketing' comments from people running real world apps, even comments from Informix development is welcomed. I realise the issues of what the query opt and backups do etc are mentioned by the dbms vendors is an issue but what other practical tips are there (like compression schemes, LAN issues etc) ?
