Is sizeof SMALLINT and INTEGER datatypes on DEC ALPHA different?

Hi, Machine : DEC Alpha OS : DEC OSF/1 Informix: 7.2 Online sizeof(long) is 8 bytes on DEC Alpha machines. Similarly sizeof(short) is 4 bytes on this machine. But can anyone tell me how many bytes is required to bind for read/write of SMALLINT/INTEGER datatypes on Informix using ESQL/C? This will help me to make the software portable.
