As far as I know Microsoft has decided not to support RMI. Microsoft are total fools when it comes to Java. You should not use anything coming from Microsoft for the purpose of developing or runing Java applications. I do not have much experience with applets (we write only applications now). However as to programs using JDK 1.1 (1.1.x) there is a problem with applets (programs that run in a web browser) that even the latest version of Netscape doesn't support it fully. When developing applets you have to be very carefull in what parts of Java you are using and testing it with the browser you want to use. As opposed to Microsoft Netscape is dedicated to fully support the Java standard though, so their product is the one to use. Netscape, IBM and Sun are cooperating intensively on creating full support with top performance for JDK 1.1 in the Netscape browser. Only when Microsoft understand that they have to support Java fully is the time to even think about their products in connection with Java.
