HELP!:Informix 5 / Informix NET/ Powerbuilder 4.x " Informix adds spaces to all character type fields, is there a switch? "

We are wirking with Informix 5, Informix NET and Powerbuilder 4.x. Every time when we are sending a string like "John" to the field <Name> (witch is 10 char's long) and we retreve the data like "John " to reduce extra work on the client software we would like to retrieve the data with no filling spaces, is there an option in Informix you can use to set these spaces off?
